The Teledyne LeCroy quantumdata 980 18G Protocol Analyzer / Generator module for HDMI Testing (commonly referred to as the HDMI 2.0 Rx/Tx Protocol Analyzer module) supports deep analysis and compliance testing of HDMI 2.0 streams up to 600MHz. The module also supports HDMI 2.0 compliance testing for source devices and UHD Alliance compliance testing for ultra high definition sources. For HDMI the tool provides full visibility into the HDMI metadata, timing data, video data, control and auxiliary data up to 600MHz (HDMI) which supports testing of HDMI 2.0 4K Ultra HD sources at 50/60Hz.
The module is also equipped with an HDMI 2.0 transmitter port primarily for compliance testing of sink devices. Currently the transmitter port offer additional but limited functionality such as pass-through monitoring of an HDMI 2.0 video stream between a source and sink, pixel error testing of cables and distribution gear or entire distribution networks in loopback mode and capture and playback where an input stream can be captured, stored and then played back.

The quantumdata 980 18G Protocol Analyzer / Generator module for HDMI Testing captures and decodes encrypted or unencrypted metadata (data islands, timing data, video data, control data, audio samples, infoframes) as well as HDMI and DDC transactions and HDMI CEC messages. Unlike competing analyzers for HDMI protocol testing, the 980 captures all data islands, audio samples, control packets and infoframes with accurate timestamps even when they are transmitted in rapid succession. Deep analysis enables you to identify and resolve interoperability problems early in a product’s life cycle.
The 980 captures and decodes HDMI metadata. You can trigger a capture on a variety of conditions or events. Once the data is captured, the 980 GUI Manager presents the data in an easy to understand way through its graphical user interface. You can filter and search through the captured data. The Capture mode enables you to store data permanently and disseminate to subject matter experts at other locations.
Both the captured data as well as compliance test data can be stored permanently and disseminated to subject matter experts at other locations. The 980 test instrument is not required to view the test results. The results and logs can be viewed through the 980 GUI Manager which is free and available from The Teledyne LeCroy quantumdata website.
The module also offers some sink and repeater test functions with its HDMI 2.0 transmitter port. You can passively monitor an HDMI stream between a source device connected to the module's receiver port and an ultra HDTV connected to the module's transmitter port. You can loopback the transmitter port to the receiver port to test cables, distribution equipment or even entire distribution networks. The transmitter port can also be used to playback a previously captured HDMI 2.0 video stream from a source to test a sink.
The following are a list of features and benefits for the 980 18G Protocol Analyzer / Generator module for HDMI Testing.
HDMI 2.0 Analyzer Features
Source Analysis – Analyzes HDMI streams from source devices. Supports analysis of HDMI 3D and deep color source content at HDMI character rates up to 600MHz with TMDS rates up to 6.00Gb/s (per pair).
Real Time monitoring mode – View the HDMI metadata and HDMI DDC traffic in real time through the new Real Time monitoring mode.
Data Island Decoding – Decodes all data island types. Data collected includes: General Control Packets, AVI and Audio Infoframes, Vendor Specific Data with 3D content, Source Product Descriptor, Audio Clock Regeneration, Audio Sample packets—including the decoding of the Channel Status Bits and the control bits.
DDC Data Decoding – Decodes all HDMI DDC transactions including EDID reads and HDCP 1.4 and 2.2/2.3 authentication.
Triggering and Precapture Filtering – Set up triggers on data island packet values as well as timing and control events. Use precapture filtering to capture the specific data you need.
Filtering of Data Transactions – Check box filtering allows you to remove data types from view that you are not interested in. Filter out all data islands except audio sample packets and audio infoframes, for example, to compare the respective values for sampling rate.
Searching Through Data – Search through the captured data to locate the specific occurrence of the data and or events you are interested in.
Timing Analysis – Verify timing parameters from HDMI source devices including all horizontal and vertical parameters and pixel clock. The timing values are compared against a set of standard timings and any deviation is indicated.
Data Portability – Data portability enables you to share capture data and compliance test results with colleagues, subject matter experts at other corporate locations and other experts for analysis and for verifying compliance. The 980 test instrument is not required to view the test results. The data can be viewed through the 980 GUI Manager which is free and available from The Teledyne LeCroy quantumdata website.
Audio Analysis – Verify audio metadata and identify inconsistencies that could result in interoperability problems.
Pixel Values – View the component color values for any pixel including deep color video.
Built-in touch screen display – Enables you to control the 980 directly through the 980 built-in color touch screen display.
Built-in touch screen display – Enables you to control the 980 directly through the 980 built-in color touch screen display.
HDMI 2.0 Generator/Analyzer Features
Pass-through monitoring – Analyzes an unencrypted HDMI 2.0 video stream between source device and a sink device passively at HDMI character rates up to 600MHz with TMDS rates up to 6.00Gb/s (per pair).
Pixel Error test – Run a pixel error analysis test on HDMI cables, distribution equipment and entire distribution networks in loopback mode at HDMI character rates up to 600MHz with TMDS rates up to 6.00Gb/s (per pair).
Playback mode – Capture and store an incoming HDMI 2.0 video stream from a source and play it back to an HDMI sink device.
The following are a list of options available for the 980 18G Protocol Analyzer / Generator module for HDMI Testing.
HDMI 2.0 Source Compliance Test Packages 1, 3, & 5 – Tests HDMI source devices for compliance to Sections 7.2 (Protocol), Section 7.3 (TMDS Pixel Encoding), Section 7.4 (Timing) and Section 7.7 (AVI InfoFrame), 7-12 (High Dynamic Range) of the HDMI 2.0 CTS.
UHD Alliance Source Compliance Test – Tests HDMI source devices for compliance to the Ultra High Definition Alliance Compliance Test Specification.
HDCP 2.2/2.3 Compliance Test Packages – Verify HDCP 2.2/2.3 on HDMI sources, sinks and repeaters.
HDMI 1.4b Source Compliance Test Package – Tests Sections 7.4 (Protocol), Section 7.5 (Source Video), Section 7.6 Source Audio, Section 7.7 Interop. with DVI and Section 7.8 (Advanced Features) of the HDMI 2.0 CTS.
The 980 18G Protocol Analyzer / Generator module for HDMI Testing supports HDMI Forum-approved compliance testing for HDMI 2.0 source tests at pixel rates over those supported in HDMI 1.4 up to 600MHz. The compliance tests are ideal for pre-testing your product prior to submission to an Authorized Test Center (ATC) for approval. Pre-testing provides added assurance that your product will pass on the first submission to the ATC. Where permitted, the 980 HDMI 2.0 Protocol Analyzer can be used to self-test your HDMI 2.0 product. Self-testing offers even greater benefits for time to market and cost reduction than pre-testing. The instrument provides all the necessary raw data test results to demonstrate compliance. The following are a list of compliance tests supported by the HDMI 2.0 Protocol Analyzer module.
