Teledyne LeCroy is Shipping Industry’s First DisplayPort 2.0 Video Analyzer and Generator
quantumdata M42d offers comprehensive testing for DisplayPort 2.0
Elgin IL, March 24, 2020 – Teledyne LeCroy Inc., the worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, today announced the availability of the quantumdata M42d Video Analyzer and Generator - the industry’s first DisplayPort 2.0 protocol test instrument
The DisplayPort 2.0 standard provides for data rates up to 20Gb/s per lane for an overall aggregate bandwidth of 80Gb/s, going well beyond the DisplayPort 1.4 standard’s aggregate rate of 32.4GB/s. These data rates support high screen resolutions of up to 16k with a 60 Hz refresh rate, and as such are perfect for applications like AR/VR and gaming. Designers and test engineers testing their products to ensure interoperability with other devices will benefit from the capabilities of a test solution like the quantumdata M42d Video Analyzer and Generator.
Teledyne LeCroy’s quantumdata M42d system supports both Source and Sink testing at the new data rates and line coding, as well as enhanced capabilities like LTTPR emulation and Panel Replay. The Capture Analyzer functionality provides deep visibility into the Main Link. And the Aux Channel Analyzer logs the Aux Channel transactions. All compliance test suites for DisplayPort 1.4 data rates are available now, and DisplayPort 2.0 Link Layer compliance tests will be added as they are defined by the committee. The M42d incorporates built-in passive probing based on Teledyne’s LeCroy state-of-art T.A.P.4 technology. “Adding the passive probing option allows for non-intrusive monitoring of the Aux Channel and Main Link between devices and is especially valuable at the higher data rates offered by DisplayPort 2.0,” said Neal Kendall, Product Manager for Teledyne LeCroy’s Video products.
“As consumer electronic products, ranging from desktop PCs and displays to mobile and wearable devices increasingly incorporate the DisplayPort digital interface to drive higher video resolutions and frame rates, it is essential for the ecosystem to have test tools for both specification and product development, as well as product compliance testing. We depend on efforts of VESA® member companies like Teledyne LeCroy to provide comprehensive test solutions for DisplayPort 2.0 silicon and devices,” said Bill Lempesis, executive director of the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), which develops and administers the DisplayPort standard and compliance logo program

Press Release Teledyne LeCroy 980 DP 1.4 USB-C/eDP Video Generator/Analyzer
Teledyne Introduces Industry-Leading DP Verification Module
980 DP 1.4 USB-C/eDP Video Generator/Analyzer Module
Adds USB-C DP Alt Mode and eDP 1.4b Support to Simplify and Improve Verification
Elgin, December 13, 2018 – Teledyne LeCroy, Inc., the worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, today announced its new 980 DisplayPort (DP) 1.4 USB-C/eDP Video Generator/Analyzer module, the industry’s first High Bit Rate 3 (HBR3) and Display Stream Compression (DSC) capable solution with USB-C support. The new module is designed to help developers in R&D and silicon manufacturing greatly simplify and improve verification for two growing Technologies - USB-C DisplayPort: Alt Mode negotiations and the Embedded DisplayPort (eDP) interface.
DisplayPort over USB-C is poised to power a new generation of video in computing, mobile devices and consumer electronics by supporting converged connectivity for data and power delivery (PD) in a single reversible cable. The introduction of Teledyne LeCroy’s 980 DP 1.4 USB-C/eDP Video Generator/Analyzer module simplifies the testing and troubleshooting of devices with DP over USB-C by removing the need for external adapters. This is significant because the use of adapters prevents developers from directly verifying the PD protocol negotiations and can cause problems related to signal integrity, data rate and number of supported lanes, which in turn can lead to inconsistent results or the inability to establish a connection. The new module’s native USB-C ports use the USB PD protocol to perform discovery and DP Alt Mode negotiations thereby eliminating issues incurred by the use of adapters.
Embedded DisplayPort or eDP 1.4b has also gained popularity as an internal video connection for portable and mobile electronics due to its versatility, cost savings and extreme power-conservation mechanisms. Teledyne LeCroy’s 980 DP 1.4 USB-C/eDP Video Generator/Analyzer module contains hardware necessary for support of eDP analysis and generation including eDP optional features such as Fast Link training, Advanced Link Power Management (ALPM) and the alternate scrambler for content protection.
The new module is fully equipped with the same rich set of DP compliance tests available on the current 980 DP 1.4 module. These include an extensive suite of VESA-approved link-layer compliance tests for sources and sinks, plus tests for Forward Error Correction (FEC) as well as DCP-approved HDCP 2.2 compliance tests for sources, sinks and repeaters. Furthermore, developers of DisplayPort source devices can still view the DisplayPort video as well as key link and video parameters in the Real Time Video Analyzer. DisplayPort sink-device developers can also continue to utilize all the features and functions of the 980 DP video generator to configure the link-training parameters by selecting from an extensive video format library and a large set of test patterns and audio clips.
The 980 DisplayPort (DP) 1.4 USB-C/eDP Video Generator/Analyzer module is available for ordering now. For more information, visit our website at: http://www.quantumdata.com/980_dp_14_usb.html or contact our sales support team.

Press Release Teledyne LeCroy HDMI 2.1 Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) Tests
Teledyne LeCroy Announces Additions to their HDMI 2.1 Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) Compliance Test Suite
Developers gain a complete set of compliance tests for verification of eARC devices
Elgin, IL, November 12, 2018 – Teledyne LeCroy, the worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, today announced support for additional HDMI 2.1 Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) compliance tests for both eARC Tx and Rx devices. Thanks to these additions, the total supported tests now number thirty-three (33) eARC Tx tests and twenty-seven (27) eARC Rx tests, completing the entire suite of eARC Tx and eARC Rx compliance tests. The HDMI 2.1 eARC compliance tests are supported in 980 Release 5.04 on the 980 48G protocol analyzer/video generator module with Fixed Rate Link capability.
The user-friendly eARC compliance tests begin by completing the Capabilities Declaration Form, selecting the desired tests, and initiating them through the 980 GUI Manager. Tests run to completion with minimal user interaction. After completing a test series, the instrument generates a detailed pass/fail report for each individual test that points developers to the root cause of failure. Teledyne LeCroy’s unique, custom-built eARC test solution offers a flexible and extensible approach that meets custom needs for specific interoperability testing beyond that offered by the compliance test suite.
The 980 Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) utility captures the eARC common-mode transactions during either the compliance tests or general testing. This enables developers to verify proper operation and investigate compliance-test failures. The detailed compliance-test results and log files can be viewed through the 980 GUI Manager and distributed to colleagues and other subject matter experts.
In addition to the eARC test functions, the quantumdata 980 48G protocol analyzer/video generator module for HDMI testing also supports protocol analysis and video generation of HDMI’s new transport mode—Fixed Rate Link (FRL)—for delivering 48Gb/s video across the HDMI link. “Completing support for the full eARC compliance test suite, along with the existing Fixed Rate Link test capabilities, is a major step toward a comprehensive solution for HDMI 2.1 test features and functions—for both sources and sinks—all supported on the single 980 48G module,” remarked Neal Kendall, Marketing Manager for Teledyne LeCroy’s quantumdata product family.

Press Release Teledyne LeCroy HDMI 2.1 eARC Testing
Teledyne LeCroy Announces Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) Test Solutions on the quantumdata 980 Series
Provides developers with a way to verify their HDMI 2.1 eARC devices
Elgin IL, April 12, 2018 – Teledyne LeCroy, the worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, today announced the introduction of a set of test solutions for verifying HDMI 2.1 Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) operation on both eARC Tx and Rx devices. The new test solutions are supported on the 980 48G Protocol Analyzer / Video Generator module for HDMI Testing.
The eARC test solutions covered in this announcement include functional and compliance tests of both eARC transmitting and receiving devices. This initial offering supports nine (9) eARC Tx and nine (9) eARC Rx compliance tests with a commitment to provide the full suite of eARC compliance tests in subsequent releases throughout this year. The module’s eARC functional test features support the emulation of both (either) an eARC Tx or eARC Rx to verify the common mode functions of the eARC device under test. Tests for differential mode will be available in future releases.
Operation of the eARC compliance tests is simple. The user-selected compliance test suite is initiated through the 980 GUI Manager. Once initiated, the tests run to completion without user interaction. When a test series has been completed, the instrument issues a detailed report that provides pass/fail results for each individual test. Details for each test are provided enabling developers to identify the root cause of a failure. Reports and log files can be viewed through the 980 GUI Manager and can be distributed to colleagues and other subject matter experts for analysis. The 980 Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) utility captures the eARC common mode transactions during the compliance tests or independently during functional testing. Viewing the eARC transactions enables developers to verify proper operation and investigate compliance test failures.
In addition to the eARC test functions, the quantumdata 980 48G module for HDMI also supports protocol analysis and video generator of HDMI’s new transport mode—Fixed Rate Link (FRL)—for delivering 48Gb/s video across the HDMI link. The addition of this initial set of eARC test solutions is a step toward providing a comprehensive solution for the key HDMI 2.1 features and functions all supported on a single 980 series module, the 980 48G Protocol Analyzer / Video Generator module for HDMI Testing.
The new eARC tests are provided through licensed options available with the 980 48G Protocol Analyzer / Video Generator module. There are separate licenses for functional testing and compliance testing and for source testing and sink testing. Press Release Teledyne LeCroy FRL Video Generation for HDMI 2.1
Teledyne LeCroy Announces Industry’s First HDMI 2.1 Fixed Rate Link (FRL) Video Generator
Developers can now test their HBR3-capable source devices for link layer compliance
Elgin, IL, April 16, 2018 – Teledyne LeCroy Inc., the worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, today announced the industry’s first HDMI 2.1 Fixed Rate Link (FRL) Video Generator. FRL is the transport mode for HDMI 2.1 which enables transmission of uncompressed 8K video formats to reach link rates of up to 48Gb/s. The HDMI 2.1 FRL video generation function is an enhancement to Teledyne LeCroy’s recently released quantumdata 980 48G Protocol Analyzer / Generator module for HDMI which runs on the 980 series platform.
One of the promises of the HDMI 2.1 specification is the increased video transfer rate of 48 Gb/s, up from 18 Gb/s in the HDMI 2.0 specification. This transfer rate can significantly improve the user experience when viewing large screen commercial applications at 4K and 8K resolutions and for Virtual Reality (VR) displays.
Now that the specification has been published, the challenge is to bring products compatible with HDMI 2.1 to market quickly. And without an FRL video generator at 48Gb/s (or FRL Protocol Analyzer), there is no good way to test these products prior to market release. The module’s 48G-capable FRL video generator feature enables developers of 48G FRL-capable sink devices to verify their designs and ensure interoperability. The FRL video generator function initiates link training with an FRL-capable sink device during the connection sequence to establish the lane rate and number of lanes used for FRL transmission. These link training transactions can be viewed and verified through the 980 Aux Channel Analyzer (ACA) utility.
“Adding HDMI 2.1 FRL Video Generation support to the 980 series is an invaluable solution to offer the industry. Developers of HDMI 2.1 displays with FRL capability now have a tool to verify their implementations at a key phase of development. We are excited about the growth that is ahead for HDMI 2.1 and are committed to supporting the HDMI 2.1 development ecosystem,” said Craig Bezek, VP of Engineering at Teledyne LeCroy’s quantumdata product family.
Customers who already own the quantumdata 980 platform, equipped with the 980 48G Protocol Analyzer / Generator module, will need to purchase the FRL Video Generation license.

Press Release Teledyne LeCroy 980 Release adds DisplayPort DSC Analysis
Teledyne LeCroy quantumdata 980B/R Now Supports Analysis of DSC-Capable Sources at any pixel rate.
Developers now have a tool to verify DSC implementations for UHD 4K
Santa Clara, February 12, 2018 – Teledyne LeCroy, the worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, today announced a test solution for analysis of Display Stream Compression (DSC) on DisplayPort High Bit Rate 3 (HBR3) video streams. This the first analysis solution for DSC aimed at UHD and higher pixel rate development teams.
DSC is primarily used in portable, battery powered systems with embedded displays, such as smartphones and tablets, to both save system power and reduce cost by decreasing the number of interconnect wires. But DSC is also used to boost external display resolution. Until now, makers of DSC-capable sources of DisplayPort HBR3 video streams were unable verify key functions of their DSC implementations. This new DSC analysis feature from Teledyne LeCroy will enable developers to view the DisplayPort DSC related protocol elements such as the picture parameter set, end of chunk packets and compression flag settings in the VBID to ensure that these elements are occurring in the video stream and that they are occurring in the proper sequence. The DSC analysis feature also captures and decompresses the video frames enabling developers to examine them for compression artifacts. There are no limitations in this solution on the number of DSC slices or pixel rate in the DSC analysis feature. And the Forward Error Correction (FEC) transport mechanism, which ensures reliable, error free video transport, can also be verified. In addition to the DisplayPort main link analysis, the aux channel DPCD transactions related to DSC and FEC configuration can be viewed through the Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) utility.
“As the variety of consumer electronic products incorporating the DisplayPort digital interface to drive 4K and higher video resolutions continues to increase, it is essential for the supply chain to have the test tools necessary to verify the rich set of enhancements that the latest versions of the DisplayPort interface now offers, such as Display Stream Compression (DSC) and High Bit Rate 3 (HBR3). We welcome and encourage the addition of new tools to the DisplayPort ecosystem that verify and support these advanced features,” said Bill Lempesis, executive director of the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA).
“The DisplayPort specifications have evolved rapidly to incorporate a wide range of features. We are excited to be at the forefront, offering source silicon makers and integrators a comprehensive solution for higher speed video streams,” said Kevin Prusso, VP of Sales and Marketing for Teledyne LeCroy’s Protocol Solutions Group, which includes the quantum data line of video test products.
The DSC analysis feature is a licensed option being offered in the quantumdata 980B or 980R platform when equipped with the 980 DisplayPort 1.4 Video Generator / Protocol Analyzer module and licensed for DisplayPort capture and analysis. Press Release Teledyne LeCroy 980 Release adds DisplayPort HBR3 Compliance Tests
Teledyne LeCroy 980 DisplayPort 1.4 Protocol Analyzer Enhanced with HBR3 Link Layer Compliance Tests and New Capture Triggers
Developers can now test their HBR3-capable source devices for link layer compliance
Santa Clara, January 31, 2018 – Teledyne LeCroy, the worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, today announced that their quantumdata 980 DisplayPort 1.4 Protocol Analyzer / Video Generator module now supports link layer compliance testing for DisplayPort High Bit Rate 3 (HBR3) video streams. Important additional enhancements in the release are a suite of new triggering mechanisms for the Capture & Analysis function.
The new DP 1.4 CT Package initially includes eleven (11) HBR3 source link training compliance tests 4.3.1.1 through 4.3.1.11 which test the link training function. Additional link layer compliance tests are planned for the new HBR3 link layer compliance test package. These tests enable developers to test their HBR3-capable source devices for link layer compliance. The new HBR3 link layer compliance test suite is initiated through the 980 GUI Manager. Once initiated, the tests run to completion with limited user interaction required. When a test series has been completed, the instrument issues a detailed report that provides pass/fail results for each individual test. You can link to the aux channel transactions recording during the test. Reports and the raw log files can be viewed through 980 GUI Manager and can be distributed to colleagues and other subject matter experts for analysis.
The new capture trigger mechanisms offer developers of DisplayPort 1.4 source devices a variety of methods for triggering a capture of an incoming DisplayPort stream up to HBR3 data rates. The capture triggers enable developers to set conditions to ensure that the captured data includes the information they are most interested in. The trigger conditions that can be set are the various data event types, the bit values within the data event types and the instance of occurrence of each event type. Enabling bit level definition and control over the capture saves time and ensures that the specific data that a developer is looking for will be captured. These benefits offer faster Time-To-Insight in resolving protocol problems.

Press Release Teledyne LeCroy Announces 780-Based HDBaseT Remote Cable Tester
Teledyne LeCroy Announces quantumdata™ 780 Series
HDBaseT Remote Cable Test Solution
Verify Installed HDBaseT Network Cable Infrastructure
Santa Clara, November 14, 2016 – Teledyne LeCroy, the worldwide leader in protocol test solutions, today announced an optional HDBaseT Remote Cable test feature offered with certain models of their popular quantumdata 780 series handheld test instruments. The HDBaseT Remote Cable test solution includes an HDBaseT Remote Terminal device and enables professional A/V integrators to verify installed network cable infrastructure for high resolution video transmission up to 300 MHz.
Network cable infrastructure is often put in place prior to the installation of video devices at the source and sink ends in a commercial, industrial or commercial building or office campus. The challenge professional installers have had is how to ensure that the installed cabling is suitable for high definition and especially ultra high definition video resolutions. Verifying the cable infrastructure when installed—prior to final commissioning of the video components—is essential to avoid callbacks and to insure that the cable network is suitable for greater bandwidth video streams in the future. The 780 series HDBaseT Remote Cable test solution addresses these issues.
The HDBaseT Remote Cable test is initiated at the source end with a 780C, 780D or 780E instrument and the HDBaseT Remote Terminal device connected at the far end of the network cable run. The test provides an indication of the quality of the installed cabling on all four (4) pairs. The results of the HDBaseT Remote Cable test can be saved using the 780’s optional Report File Creation feature to provide a permanent record of the tests for clients or internal records. The HDBaseT Remote Cable test report can be formatted in plain text or HTML and can be viewed in a standard browser.
Availability
The optional HDBaseT Remote Cable test solution is available now and offered with the 780 series instruments equipped with HDBaseT Tx and Rx ports. These include: the 780C, 780D, and 780E. The HDBaseT Remote Cable test solution can be ordered with the purchase of a suitable 780 instrument or it can be ordered as a separate accessory for existing 780 owners but the existing Cable Test option is required. An introductory offer is available which includes the HDBaseT Remote Cable test option and the Report File Creation option.

Quantum Data Announces Enhancements to the DP Video Generator / Analyzer module
Elgin IL - May 13, 2015 - Quantum Data™, a worldwide provider of video test equipment, today announced enhancements to their DisplayPort 1.2 Video Generator / Analyzer module for the 980 Series Test Platforms. The module is equipped with two (2) transmitter (video generator) ports and a receiver (analyzer) port for testing both DP 1.2 sources and displays at link rates up to 5.4 Gb/s (HBR2) on 1, 2 or 4 lanes. The enhancements being announced pertain to both the video generator function for testing DP 1.2 displays and for the video analyzer function for testing DP 1.2 sources and will be supported in separate 980 system releases.
On the video generator side, the module now supports Multi-Stream Transport (MST) testing and audio testing of DP 1.2 displays. The module’s second transmitter port can emulate an MST source capable of delivering up to four (4) MST streams to an MST branch device or MST-capable display. The MST feature enables users to read the EDIDs and DPCD registers of the downstream displays. The module also now supports audio testing with up to 8 channels of LPCM audio including support for audio over MST streams.
On the video analyzer side for testing DP 1.2 source devices, the 980 DP 1.2 module will support a second option—the DP Protocol Analyzer—in addition to the existing Basic Analyzer option. The Protocol Analyzer option (which requires the Basic Analyzer option to be in place) captures and stores main link data and provides developers with visibility into the protocol data and metadata. The capture utility depicts these data items on a graphical time line as well as a sequential table for viewing the details. The module’s Basic Analyzer option will support emulation of an MST-capable Rx device for testing an MST-capable source device.
The optional Aux Channel Analyzer (ACA), which shows the aux channel traffic such as link training, EDID exchange and HDCP authentication, has been enhanced to show the MST negotiations between the module and an MST-capable source or display.
